The United Kingdom -Zjednoczone Królestwo. When many people say England, they mean the wole British country. England, however, is only a part of what we know as the United Kingdom. The proper country, the United Kingdom, consist of four parts: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. England, Scotland and Wales and situated on the same island, called Great Britian. The capital of the UK is Londone, one of the biggest cities in the world. Britain is a monarchy. The present head of the country is Queen Elisabeth II. The UK is a bit different from other European countries. This is because it lies on islands and is separated from the main continent by the sea and the English Channel. You propably wonder what is so different about Britain. Well, for example food. The British eat traditional breakfast, which is cooked and consists of eggs, tomatoes, bacon and toast. The things we eat for breakfast, like simple sandwiches or cereal with milk, are called a continental breakfast. Another difference are the measures. We use centimetres, metres, kilometres, grams and kilograms. The Bristih have inches, yards, miles, ounces and pounds. Shopping in Britain can be really difficult sometimes! But apart from that, Britain is a beautiful country. As it is situated on an island, it is very close to a beach whenever you are. There are also wonderful lakes and mountains there. The tallest of them is Ben Nevis (1343m) in Scotland. Britain has a mild climate - winters are not very cold and it is rather warm in summer. But there is a lot of rain, so if you are going to Britain, think about taking a raincoat!
