Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, the man we know as Leonardo, was born on the 15th April 1442 in the village of Anchiano in Italy. He didn't really have a surname as people who live today, because "da Vinci" really means "from Vinci", which is a small, quiet town. Leonardo spent the first two years of his life with his mother and grandparents. His parents never got married. In fact, his mother soon married someone else. When he was five, his father took care of him, and young Leonardo learnt to read and write. At the age of 15, he started studying Art in Florence. In 1482, Leonardo left Florence and went to Milan, where he worked for a lot of rich people, not only drawing or painting, but also writing and organising parties. He spent a lot of time studying science and writing dow his ideas in notebooks. Because of this, he sometimes didn't hinish what he started and only completed six paintings in 17 years. Between 1495 and 1498, he created The Last Supper and became very rich. Then, he went back to Florence, and painted another famous work Mona Lisa. Leonardo had many friends, and he even met the French King, Louis XIII. When the king visited Italy, Leonardo prepared the celebrations. At the same time, he became more and more interested in th human body and travelled a lot to learn about this from different doctors. Leonardo spent the last year of his life in a house on Coloux in France. The house was near the king's castle because the king wanted to talk to him at any time of the day or night. Leonardo was very ill at the end of his life. He did on 2nd May, 1519 and some people believe that the king was next to him at the moment of his death. 1)Leonardo A)was born in town.
